In 2022, Nikon Australia set out to expand its digital marketing capabilities by introducing Google Search Ads for the first time. This marked a strategic shift toward performance-driven acquisition in a highly competitive landscape. Despite being a globally recognised brand, they lacked a Google Ads account and had never actively pursued paid search as part of their local marketing strategy. Ribbon Gang was engaged not only to establish and manage this channel from the ground up, but to build a long-term, performance-led strategy that adapts month to month responding to both business goals and market realities.
02. How
The Challenge:
As Australia transitioned out of the COVID era in 2022, Nikon Australia was ready to accelerate its digital growth and saw Search and Google Ads as a key channel to drive performance. With no existing paid search presence, they engaged Ribbon Gang to build a compliant, scalable, and ROI-focused foundation from the ground up. Their objectives were to:
- Launch a high-performing Google Search Ads strategy
- Increase site traffic and drive qualified conversions that boosted product sale
- Promote newly launched products within a fast-moving retail cycle
- Receive monthly recommendations to optimise their Search and Ads strategy
However, several operational challenges needed to be navigated:

- Google Shopping restrictions due to feed compliance issues linked to their Magento backend, preventing product ads from going live
